In September, Joey BadA$$ did a interview with Wild 94.1 to discuss his well anticipated album. “This new project is very powerful,” he said. “That’s the best thing I can say about it: It’s very strong music. It’s like hella vegetables. It’s hella good for you, and it’s almost my hesitance with it: the fact that it’s so good for you, because these kids these days want candy.”
Earlier this week, Joey Bada$$ finally dropped his second album, “All-Amerikkkan Bada$$.”
The title speaks for it self. The Brooklyn rapper puts pressure on fans and media habitually by expressing his political and social views on issues in America today. Joey does this in a way that few members of the youth do today by embodying the golden age of 90’s hiphop sonically.
A few of Joey’s musical cohorts, in particular J. Cole, SchoolBoy Q and Styles P make an appearance on this new project. You can tell that the 22-year old rapper has a powerful message to deliver early in the project. All-American Bada$$ focuses on subjects like Donald Trump being elected our current president, police brutality, mass incarceration and more.
In Land of the Free Joey raps a meaningful chorus over a tight sample on the title track with bars like:
“It’s full of free loaders
Leave us dead in the street to be their organ donors
They disorganized my people, made us all loners
Still got the last name of our slave owners
In the land of the free, it’s full of free loaders
Leave us dead in the street to be their organ donors”
If you’ve been sleeping on him before I bet it won’t happen again because Joey has out done himself with this project. Many know “Devastated” to be a people’s favorite after it was released as the albums lead single in May 2016 but All- Amerikkkan Badass is worth a full listen because it is amazing from beginning to end.
